Good News Blast 1/14/2010

Thursday’s at the Giant Squid Showcase are reserved for YOUR GOOD NEWS and this week we received some GREAT news from several Giant Squid lensmasters.  Read all about it!

From GramaBarb:

I am so excited about my good news that I created a new lens to feature it.  It is all explained here:

2010 Visualization Becomes Reality

I will be taking a photo a day for the year 2010 to support my daughter-in-law in her Weekend Walk to End Women’s Cancers.  I thought I would be doing it alone but I thought I would invite others if they want to join me.  I am thrilled to be joined by others.

Others supporting this charity and “running” a photo marathon with me is very good news!  They are sharing some awesome pictures on RedGage.

From Ramkitten:

I published my “Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad Nepal Book Project” fundraising page on Kickstarter today at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deb/the-himalaya-rescue-dog-squad-nepal-book-project and just got my first pledge, which was really exciting for me. I’ll be spending three months in Nepal, doing research for a book I’ll be writing about the only Search & Rescue team in the country and the many lives they’ve touched. I’ve written a lens about this as well:  My Adventure in Nepal: The Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad

From Clouda9

I have a couple of things brewing for the Squidoo Community, loving that your are giving us a chance to shout out!  Thank you.

* Lens O’Month Give Away Check Squid Report on the 2nd of each month to let me (clouda9) know how you’ll take care of the lens. Someone will get the lens no strings attached. Inspired by the holiday Giants Forum discussions.

*Squidoo Chefmasters Chopped Challenge The opening challenge was posted on 01/03/2010 and runs for two weeks (new challenges are posted every Sunday). If you have a recipe with tomato sauce, pasta, and shredded cheese…please head in and add it. If you have no clue how to even boil water we’d love to have you add a recipe that is a family favorite or stand on the sidelines to cheer us on. Read more about the challenges on the blog.

Learning from the Greats – Ramkitten

ramkittenlme34cba83b528a30297bbc091b1d3e775_1228683472yay[1]I asked some of our newest Giants to share the name of the one lensmaster who inspired them the most.  Here’s what Ramkitten said:

“I have to say that the lensmaster who’s influenced and inspired me the most is A_Willow.  She was one of the first to visit and comment on my first lens and soon afterwards added it to her monthly Fresh Squid Contest in which my lens actually took the top spot, which was pretty thrilling for a newbie. I felt like my work had been validated, and that really inspired me to make many more lenses.

I’ve kept in contact with Michelle all along and then became one of her team members–on the WiWon team–for the latest Giant Squid challenge. She was and IS a great team leader, not only encouraging us but giving us honest feedback and great tips to improve our lenses and come up with ideas for more. It’s really amazing how hard Michelle works on and for Squidoo and the community.”
