Unique Advertising Possibilities on Squidoo
Jul 1st
Giant lensmaster Noadi is an exquisitely talented artist and fantasy sculptor whose inspired lenses demonstrate how beautifully Squidoo.com works to help promote her business, artwork, blog and website.
At Fantasy Sculpture – Noadi’s Art in addition to seeing a sampling of her gorgeous creations, you’ll see how Noadi makes good use of the many different lens modules available to both share and creatively advertise her artwork.
Her clientele can watch Youtube.com video’s of her, and her artwork. She uses Flickr.com photos to showcase a step-by-step work in progress. She shares a bit of her artistic history and background through good use of text, link, and photo modules. Potential buyers really get to know her and can examine her work in a way that a quick stop at a craft fair or a simple text-only ad could never match.
Are you using Squidoo’s full potential to advertise your talent, artwork, or home made products? Amazon and eBay modules are great for selling things but with Squidoo’s wide assortment of other modules you can find a unique way to advertise virtually anything.
Do you know someone creative who could benefit from this type of no cost advertisement? Why not make a lens for them? Or better yet, show them how to make one of their own.
The innovative advertising possibilities of Squidoo are limited only by your imagination!
Do you have a Giant lens that shows off a creative way to use Squidoo.com for advertising something. Leave me a link and I’ll feature the best ideas here next week.
Find Your Squidoo Voice
Jun 25th
Your Squidoo voice (your writing style) can mean the difference between having a good lens or having a great lens that people want to come back to again, and again.
Squidoo writing should be conversational in tone and fun to read while still being authoratative. You are the expert, you love your subject, and you enjoy telling others about it.
When you start to preach about something, or just state facts in a more formal way, although your information and recommendations may be valid, readers can become bored and leave your lens to find something a bit more lighthearted and interesting to read. Giant lensmaster Victoria_Neely has created a wonderful lens on this subject that I think all lensmasters will benefit from reading.
Conversational Writing vs. Formal Writing explores the differences between these two very different styles of writing and supplies tips and explanations to help you know when and where each style is appropriate. I think that finding your own unique Squidoo voice is critical to the success of your lenses.
Victoria_Neely’s fun-to-read Conversational Writing vs. Formal Writing can help you discover exactly which type of writing you’ve been doing and perhaps lead you to find your own perfect Squidoo voice; a voice your reader’s will trust and come back to hear more of.
Online Data Entry Jobs
Jun 24th
Giant lensmaster Crystal_Booth has designed an entire series of lenses based on Online Data Entry Jobs. The popular series goes into great detail about the program offered by Laura Kauth.
To get the most out of this group of lenses I recommend you start with Legitimate Data Entry ~ Series Introduction where you will learn all about what work-at-home data entry really is and find links to the other terrifically helpful lenses in the series.
Each of Crystal_Booth’s Data Entry lenses are well laid out, easy to read, easy to understand, and when viewed as a whole demonstrate an excellent example of using Squidoo lenses to build an expert niche topic.
What are you an expert at? Take a look at some of your best lenses. Can they be broken down into smaller pieces? Can you build new lenses that detail new aspects of your old ones?
Having one great lens about your favorite topic is good, having several lenses about your favorite topic can make you the Squidoo expert.

The Real Secret to Squidoo Success
Jun 16th
With two weeks to go before the next wave gets inducted, the Giant Squid Hopefuls are busy tidying up and polishing their 50 fabulous lenses. I thought I’d help them out by featuring one of the most helpful and inspirational Squidoo lenses I’ve ever seen, EelKat’s Secrets to Squidoo Success .
At EelKat’s Secrets to Squidoo Success Giant lensmaster EelKat shares her tips, tricks, ideas, and suggestions for making truly spectacular lenses. She discusses different ways to earn money with your Squidoo lenses and how to get more traffic to your lenses. She shares her lens promotion ideas. She explains what it takes to make your lenses stand out from the crowd and ways to find great ideas for making more lenses. She shares her best lensmaking resources and ways to encourage reader interaction. She also goes into detail about the importance of leaving and receiving good guestbook comments and why you should help promote your fellow lensmaster’s lenses.
The lens reads like an interview and contains huge amounts of really good lens building advice in addition to a most inspiring story. You see, although you’d never know it from reading her work, Eelkat happens to have a slight disadvantage when it comes to making her lenses. At EelKat’s Secrets to Squidoo Success she reveals her lens building obstacle and the way she overcomes it.
Whether you suffer the same problem, or have a difficulty of your own, I know you will find her story totally inspiring and come away with the knowledge that if she can do it (and do it so well) so can you!
My best tip for Squidoo lensmaking success is to visit this awesome lens and to encourage every lensmaster you know to do the same. Squidoo.com’s reputation grows with each quality lens that is built. The more Giant lensmasters we encourage, mentor, and nominate, the better for Squidoo as a whole.
In other words, I think the real secret to Squidoo success is the way the lensmasters work so hard to help each other build really good quality lenses. As Giants we need to lead the way and lend a hand because when any Squidoo lens comes up as an authority page in the search engines, we all win!
Please Note: It’s not to late to nominate a potential Giant Squid lensmaster. If you know of anyone deserving please send us a note about them to Giants (at) Squidoo.com. If that deserving lensmaster happens to be you, send us a link to your bio page at Wannbeagiant (at) Squidoo.com.
Squidtop
May 27th
Today’s featured lens is not a lens at all, it’s a place for you to blog about your lenses. Squidtop.com was announced by the Captain on May 10, 2008 and it is a huge hit with the lensmasters already.
What makes Squidtop so great is the ability to post links to your lenses without the fear of violating any TOS rules. (In case you missed it, there was a bit of a hub-bub about this at Squidu lately.) Squidtop was designed specifically for the lensmasters of Squidoo to help them promote their good work.
You can learn more at the Squidtop About page. Take a look. I know you’re going to like what you find.
I’ve got mine and I suggest you go get yours right away.
P.S. You can even get more than one if you like!
This Week’s Winning Lens – Bdkz
May 23rd
I can’t believe it’s friday already (Where do the days go?) and time to announce our newest winner in the Choose Your Favorite Giant Squid Lens Contest.
The winning lens is always chosen by the lensmasters at Squidoo.com. And remember, you don’t have to be a Giant to nominate and vote but all nominated lenses must have been made by Giant Squid lensmasters.
This week’s well-deserved winning lens, Squidoo Tips From a Giant Squid, was made by our own bdkz.
In addtion to being a mega Giant Squid with over 300 lenses, she’s also a Giant Squid Organizer, a Top 100 lensmaster, and a Squid Angel. Bdkz sure is one busy Squid!
Squidoo Tips From a Giant Squid is chock-full of really important tips to making the very best Squidoo lenses possible. She has neatly organized her advice into two categories, Knowledge You Need to Succeed and The Tools You Need to Succeed. This awesome lens is not only informative but inspiring as well. Bdkz covers all of the basics and a few things that you might never have thought of. She’s also included links to fine examples of her work where you can see how and why her tips really work.
Bdkz designed the lens as a way to help regular lensmasters achieve Giant Squidness but in my opinion even the already-Giants will benefit greatly from this terrific lens!
Stop by Squidoo Tips From a Giant Squid to congratulate her and pick up a few tricks while you’re there.
Using The Write Module To Do More Than Just Write
May 22nd
If you’ve been around Squidoo.com for any amount of time, you already know what a powerful lensmaster Margaret Schaut is. At the The Write Module for Anything Margaret shares her best tips for using the write module to do a lot more than just write text. She shows you how to add lots of pictures to just one module, how to make link lists, how to use the module to make regular lists, how to add block quotes, and best of all, she shares some of her best secrets to creating fabulous lenses.
With 159 star ratings (at this posting), she has already helped bunches of lensmasters make their good lenses, better. (I love how the Giants are so selfless and willing to help out their fellow lensmasters!)
If you haven’t already been there, I suggest you take a few moments to visit this Giant’s lens today!
And if you aren’t already a Giant Squid, (or if you know someone who’s just getting started at Squidoo) I highly recommend Margaret’s How to Make Your First (or Second) Lens where she teaches new lensmasters how to make Top Notch lenses, quickly.
Many of you may already know Margaret from her extremely popular lens, Michelangelo’s David. In my opinion, The Write Module for Anything and How to Make Your First (or Second) Lens are also beautiful (and very helpful) works of art.
Giant Lensography Lenses
May 20th
When you’ve got more than 50 quality Squidoo lenses, keeping track of them all can become a bit daunting. The best (and easiest) way of sorting through them is to create a lensography lens (a lens about your lenses) where you can separate your many lenses into topic groupings of your choice.
In my opinion, one of the finest examples of a lensography lens was made by mega giant JaguarJulie. In fact the JaguarJulie Lensography is so good that it was honored with Lens of the Day on March 7, 2008.
JaguarJulie has been a Squidoo lensmaster for over two years now and has created close to 350 lenses and 6 groups. She’s a member of the The Giant Squid 100 Club and also a Squidoo Angel.
JaguarJulie has neatly organized her cavalcade of lenses on her lensography by arranging her many lenses into niche groups including Fashion, Jewelry, Health, Romania, Hungary, Topicability, Hunky Men, Girl Power, Spices, Her Squidoo groups, Lenses about her Blogs, Lenses about herself, (Don’t you love learning about your fellow Squidooers?) and her lenses utilizing Squidoo’s co-brands; Hey Monkeybrains, and The Ever Project.
What makes her lensography different than just a boring grocery-store type list of lenses is that she shares her Squidoo story throughout the lens, making this lensography a completely enjoyable read.
Take a look at the Jaguar Julie Lensography to get ideas for building (or improving) your own lensography.
