Thursday’s at the Giant Squid Showcase are reserved for YOUR GOOD NEWS and this week we received some GREAT news from several Giant Squid lensmasters. Read all about it!
From GramaBarb:
I am so excited about my good news that I created a new lens to feature it. It is all explained here:
2010 Visualization Becomes Reality
I will be taking a photo a day for the year 2010 to support my daughter-in-law in her Weekend Walk to End Women’s Cancers. I thought I would be doing it alone but I thought I would invite others if they want to join me. I am thrilled to be joined by others.
Others supporting this charity and “running” a photo marathon with me is very good news! They are sharing some awesome pictures on RedGage.

From Ramkitten:
I published my “Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad Nepal Book Project” fundraising page on Kickstarter today at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deb/the-himalaya-rescue-dog-squad-nepal-book-project and just got my first pledge, which was really exciting for me. I’ll be spending three months in Nepal, doing research for a book I’ll be writing about the only Search & Rescue team in the country and the many lives they’ve touched. I’ve written a lens about this as well: My Adventure in Nepal: The Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad

From Clouda9
I have a couple of things brewing for the Squidoo Community, loving that your are giving us a chance to shout out! Thank you.
* Lens O’Month Give Away Check Squid Report on the 2nd of each month to let me (clouda9) know how you’ll take care of the lens. Someone will get the lens no strings attached. Inspired by the holiday Giants Forum discussions.
*Squidoo Chefmasters Chopped Challenge The opening challenge was posted on 01/03/2010 and runs for two weeks (new challenges are posted every Sunday). If you have a recipe with tomato sauce, pasta, and shredded cheese…please head in and add it. If you have no clue how to even boil water we’d love to have you add a recipe that is a family favorite or stand on the sidelines to cheer us on. Read more about the challenges on the blog.

Spotlight On GramaBarb
Dec 8th
Every Monday, starting today, the Giant Squid Community Showcase will put the spotlight on a successful Top 100 Giant Squid lensmaster. You’ll learn one of their best lensmaking tips, get a personal tour of their newest lens, and learn the secret behind the making of their all time favorite lens.
GramaBarb has graciously offered to be the first lensmaster to spill the beans. The question she chose to answer was, When starting a new lens, how much research do you do? Do you follow any type of plan or do you just wing it?
GramaBarb: The research I do for a lens depends on the topic of the lens I want to do. I do not have a set plan but I don’t wing it either. Sometimes it is an idea for a basic shopping lens like my Slippers and Pajamas lens. The research I did for it was searching to see if Amazon had some really cute combinations and then I look for a couple quick history facts. And soon the lens came to life. Some of my lenses percolate in my brain for a couple of days before I actually start it and I am constantly making notes about my plan for the lens. The most recent lens that I did that with was The Great Depression Era – 1930s. This subject is part of my passion of history and genealogy and therefore it took more time to put together a very important story as I wanted it to honor the people of that era. I decided to include 2 of my family stories from that time period and the actual picture of my Grandparent’s wilderness cabin during the ’30’s.
Each and every one of my lenses develops it’s own personality – I never wing it. Some take days and others take an hour but each one is carefully thought out and gradually they come to life which I constantly tweak even after I publish it.
The newest lens that I am the most passionate about is the The Great Depression Era – 1930s – and the original idea came from the current world financial crisis and remembering the Depression stories from my family of the 1930’s. We should be thankful to all those people that carried on inspite of real hardships and I wanted to add my voice of gratitude.
My all time favorite lens is one that is close to my heart – my sister:
I started this lens when she was still alive as a place to keep the resources that I needed to give her support through her unbelievable terrible health crisis. As I found info I posted it on this lens and then shared it with her during my visits with her. She eagerly read everything I brought her. Now this lens is a tribute to my sister – AnnaRuth. I miss her still! Kidney Dialysis – Finding Support
