Did you know there are only eight species of bears worldwide? I didn’t until I read this great lens by our honorary Bearmeister.

Since it’s Election Day in the states I thought a feature about Squidoo contests might be appropriate.
You may not realize it but a lot of thought goes into the planning and running of a Squidoo based (or any other) contest before the voting begins. I’m thrilled to be able to present Gifts for Soldiers as this week’s winner of the Choose Your Favorite Giant Lens Contest Gifts for Soldiers, is a proud member of The Squidoo Activist’s Group and was made by Giant lensmaster Frankster.
Gifts for Soldiers explores the many ways you can personally support the troops overseas by sending them surprise gift packages, photos, and letters of encouragement. This lens, like all of the lenses in the Activist’s group, donates 100% of it’s royalties to charity. Please stop by the lens today to congratulate Frankster and to lend your support.

This Week’s Giant Winner – Frankster

This week’s Giant winner of the Choose Your Favorite Giant Lens Contest is Kartick Satyanarayan – Champion of India’s Dancing Bears by Giant lensmaster Frankster and before I begin telling you about it, let me just say – WOW!
The lens was made for the Superhero Charity group and donates to Wildlife SOS , a charity that Frankster introduced to Squidoo that works to save these beautiful creatures from the tortures they are forced to endure. It’s about a man named Kartick Satyanarayan who has dedicated his life to animal rescue and saving the dancing bears of India. The lens is gorgeously designed and the topic is extraordinary. I can see why you picked it as a favorite!
You’ll want to read Saving the Dancing Bears of India (This one was this week’s runner up in the contest that’s why I’m featuring them together. ) to get the entire picture of just what the plight of the dancing bears is all about. (Caution: It will upset you. This is a tragedy beyond belief.)
The thing that really blew me away upon reading these two unbelievable lenses is contained in the following statement taken directly from one of the lenses:
“Karen de la Carriere of Thomas Kinkade fame, inspired and turned over the making of the Dancing Bears lens to me, even though it was dear to her heart because of my connection with Bears.
We’re going to India! That’s right, this summer, Karen and I are going to visit with Geeta and Kartick and the rescued Dancing Bears ~~ we are on a mission to get the last Dancing Bears off the streets ~~ and we will be back with so much more info. We can bear-ly contain our excitement!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see the lenses these two awesome and inspiring lensmasters make when they return!

Brand new Giant Squid Frankster is our resident Bear expert and boy can she teach the world a lot about this magnificent creature! Not only does one of her most popular lens Are You Polar Bear Aware? donate to the National Wildlife Federation’s Alaska Natural Resource Center, it was also Squidoo’s 2007 Lens of the Year 2nd Runner-up and as of today has 379 Star Ratings!
Frankie also has 19 additional lenses about Bears including one of my favorites, Saving The Dancing Bears Of India. This compelling lens shows the tragic abuse that these bears endure and the compassionate people who are trying to save them including Frankie herself. Her love of bears started when she sculpted a polar bear for a friend. From there she started Sculptures by Frankie which donates 10% of her sculpture sales to help save bears.
Frankie’s dedication to saving these beautiful endangered animals, both with her lenses and her art, is truly inspiring, and I am so proud to be in her company as fellow Lensmaster and Giant Squid. So please take a look at her library of work, you can learn a lot from this amazing lady!
