Honor the Super Heros in Your Life
Jun 17th
And Maybe Earn $500.00 for Your Favorite Charity While You’re At It!
Is your spouse faster than a speeding bullet when it comes to preparing supper every night after a long hard day at work?
Were your grandparents a powerful influence on you?
Do you know anyone who was able to leap tall obstacles in order to make a difference in your’s or somebody else’s life?
In the month of May Squidoo earned over $8000.00 for charity. We’d love to increase those numbers and have started a special project just for that purpose.
In order to give the project a good headstart, and a proper introduction, the Squidoo Superhero Project for Charity is running a contest and the rules are simple.
Make 5 lenses about your favorite average everyday super heroes.
Be sure to set the payment option on these lenses to charity.
Turn your best 5 Superhero lenses in by July 1st 2008 by emailing them to superheroes at squidoo.com.
The 5 most sincere, creative, well-written lenses will be selected by a panel of lensmasters to win $500 each to the charity of your choice. And a spot as Lens of the Day.
Anne Reidy, Squidoo.com’s Nonprofit Organizer has set up a couple of blogs to help you get started.
Visit the Superhero Project for Charity Headdquarters to learn more about the contest and how you can help others while honoring the special people in your life!
P.S. Here’s a good example of a Superhero lens to give you inspiration.

Charity Begins at Home
Jun 10th
With Squidoo, charity really does begin at home and the Giant Squids are champions at making fabulous lenses for their favorite charitable organizations. One charitable lens that truly stands out from the crowd is How to Donate Your Hair which was made by Giant lensmaster SusanVillasLewis.
This lens is laid out beautifully and utilizes text, photo, video, and slide show demonstrations to detail all the steps neccessary to donating ones hair. She has included information for many of the charities and organizations that accept, or are involved in, hair donation and she provides short hair style recommendations for the donatee . She also conveniently includes direct links to all of the organizations listed which makes it easy for anyone interested in donating their hair to find ALL the information they need in one, easy to read place.
And this highly successful lens not only explains the hair donation procedure but also donates proceeds to the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.
Last month alone, Squidoo.com donated over $8000.00 to chartiy. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could double or even triple that number?
We could if every Giant Squid used their talented lens making capabilities to make another lens or two for their favorite charity or cause.
Take a look at How to Donate Your Hair to get some design ideas and then get to work on a new charity lens of your own. Squidoo makes it easy for you to help the world right from the comfort of your own home, one lens at a time. Working together as a team, the Giant group of lensmasters really can make a huge difference.
Think about it. With over 50 fabulous lenses under your belt already, what’s one more for charity?
SusanVillasLewis didn’t stop at one. She also created a wonderful lens that showcases Soles United, a place that recycles old Croc brand shoes into footwear for people in impoverished countries.
Who are you going to help today?
Leave me a link to your new Giant charity lenses (in the comments section here) and I promise to feature them right here next week!
Giants Can Make a Huge Difference
May 15th
I think as Giant Squid lensmasters we can make a huge difference in the world by making lenses that spotlight our favorite charities, organizations, or causes.
One charity based lens that always stands out in my mind is by lensmaster Kim Giancaterino. Her lens Would You Trade Your Daughter for a Cow? is a prime example of the good work we Giants can do. The lens spotlights the Asante Africa Foundation and IntoAfrica Ecotourism, through the use of pictures, video, and articles featuring different projects underway by these fine organizations. She encourages her readers to get involved and offers them ways of doing so through links to newsletters, places to donate, and products to buy that support the cause of the Asante Africa Foundation.
As you read through this lens you can feel Kim’s passion for the organization, and for the young girls who are actually, quite unbelievably in this day and age, being traded for cows. You can’t help but want to get involved.
Have you ever wanted to make a difference but didn’t know how? What charity or causes do you feel strongly about? Why not make a lens about them and donate the proceeds? You’ll be surprised by how quickly the proceeds from a single lens can add up.
Today, why not make a lens that makes a difference. It feels good. It feels really, really good!
Psst. . . Giant Squid Organizer Patti is in process of starting a group to feature your Giant Squid charity lenses. We’ll be featuring the group here as soon as it’s up and running. Stay tuned!
