New Giants – New Giant Lenses to Feature

Today we proudly welcome a very impressive group of new Giant Squid Lensmasters into the program.   So many new Giants – So many new Giant lenses to feature!

    Where to start?

I’m just going to jump right in.

Call me a rebel but I’ve always loved the infamous story of Bonnie and Clyde and New Giant Lensmaster ElizabethJeanAllen has truly demonstrated her lensmaking talent and well-deserved  giant squidness with a terrific lens she wrote about the well known couple.

Her lens, Bonnie and Clyde, contains the entire poetic story – the background, the facts, the legend, the uprising, the downfall, fabulous photos of the real gangsters – while it also displays excellent use of html and design technique.

The lens flows beautifully from beginning to end and is truly an enjoyable read but one great lens does not a Giant lensmaster make, no-siree-bob.  You see, in addition to this great lens (among many others she’s made) ElizabethJeanAllen also has a terrific series of lenses about wild birds.  You can see the entire collection by visiting her special lensography,  Busy Lizzy’s Bird Lenses

In the coming days we’ll be spotlighting more of the lenses made by our newest Giants. (Don’t worry, Friday is still reserved for the Choose Your Favorite Giant Lens Contest winner.)

Stop by So You wanna be a Giant Squid to see the entire list of new inductees and a roll call of all the Top 100 Club members.

    Unique Advertising Possibilities on Squidoo

Giant lensmaster Noadi is an exquisitely talented artist and fantasy sculptor whose inspired lenses demonstrate how beautifully Squidoo.com works to help promote her business, artwork, blog and website.

At  Fantasy Sculpture – Noadi’s Art in addition to seeing a sampling of her gorgeous creations, you’ll see how Noadi makes good use of the many different lens modules available to both share and creatively advertise her artwork.

Her clientele can watch Youtube.com video’s of her, and her artwork.  She uses Flickr.com photos to showcase a step-by-step work in progress.  She shares a bit of her artistic history and background through good use of text, link, and photo modules.  Potential buyers really get to know her and can examine her work in a way that a quick stop at a craft fair or a simple text-only ad could never match.

Are you using Squidoo’s full potential to advertise your talent, artwork, or home made products?  Amazon and eBay modules are great for selling things but with Squidoo’s wide assortment of other modules you can find a unique way to advertise virtually anything.

Do you know someone creative who could benefit from this type of no cost advertisement?  Why not make a lens for them?   Or better yet, show them how to make one of their own.

The innovative advertising possibilities of Squidoo are limited only by your imagination!

Do you have a Giant lens that shows off a creative way to use Squidoo.com for advertising something.  Leave me a link and I’ll feature the best ideas here next week.

    Making History Personal

If you think you don’t like history, you have not seen it presented the way that Giant Squid badmsm can. Her lens Miss Sandy is a personal journey she takes her reader on with her. Miss Sandy is a B-26, and her story is told while badmsm is researching her father’s military history (Sgt. Melvin O. “Mo” Miles). She shares personal insight, Air Force tidbits, and even replies she gets from members of her dad’s platoon (the 729th Bomb Squadron). This is a lens that will keep you captivated from beginning to end (and I find that I check back to see if she has heard from any other fellow service members!).

And, as an added treat – check out the module under Miss Sandy’s guestbook to see the very cool new Giant Squid graphic.  You can grab a copy of the logo for yourself HERE.

    Find Your Squidoo Voice

Your Squidoo voice (your writing style) can mean the difference between having a good lens or having a great lens that people want to come back to again, and again.

Squidoo writing should be conversational in tone and fun to read while still being authoratative.  You are the expert, you love your subject, and you enjoy telling others about it.

When you start to preach about something, or just state facts in a more formal way, although your information and recommendations may be valid, readers can become bored and leave your lens to find something a bit more lighthearted and interesting to read.  Giant lensmaster Victoria_Neely has created a wonderful lens on this subject that I think all lensmasters will benefit from reading.

Conversational Writing vs. Formal Writing  explores the differences between these two very different styles of writing and supplies tips and explanations to help you know when and where each style is appropriate.  I think that finding your own unique Squidoo voice is critical to the success of your lenses.

Victoria_Neely’s fun-to-read Conversational Writing vs. Formal Writing can help you discover exactly which type of writing you’ve been doing and perhaps lead you to find your own perfect Squidoo voice; a voice your reader’s will trust and come back to hear more of.

    Online Data Entry Jobs

Giant lensmaster Crystal_Booth has designed an entire series of lenses based on Online Data Entry Jobs.  The popular series goes into great detail about the program offered by Laura Kauth.

To get the most out of this group of lenses I recommend you start with Legitimate Data Entry ~ Series Introduction where you will learn all about what work-at-home data entry really is and find links to the other terrifically helpful lenses in the series.

Each of Crystal_Booth’s Data Entry lenses are well laid out, easy to read, easy to understand, and when viewed as a whole demonstrate an excellent example of using Squidoo lenses to build an expert niche topic.

What are you an expert at?  Take a look at some of your best lenses.  Can they be broken down into smaller pieces?  Can you build new lenses that detail new aspects of your old ones?

Having one great lens about your favorite topic is good, having several lenses about your favorite topic can make you the Squidoo expert.

Start building your own little niche empire today!

    Do You Have A Hero?

Well, today I have to tell you I have a heroine.  A Blondeheroine to be specific.  I’ve been taking a stroll through the Squidoo world of BlondeHeroine, and I have to tell you, I’ve been smiling most of the way. She has some of the most original views and opinions on things, they are a pleasure to read. One of my all time favorite lenses of hers is Jim Henson (to be read in conjunction, of course, with The Muppets Video Showcase). Her knowledge and care for her subject come shining through and you are given a wonderful glimpse at a very talented man.

Lest you think she will only write on the famous, check out her SquidWho page where she says she “followed the guidelines” and made a SquidWho on herself. This kind of thinking and mental stretching is what makes her a great lensmaster. Well, that and a wicked sense of humor — Romantic Comedies That Don’t Suck. Seriously. Check it out.

A Quick Note About The Superhero Project

Comfortdoc has informed me that she has started a group for all of your lenses built for the Superhero Project.  Be sure to stop by the Superhero Group and join up!

    The challenge is simple:

Make 5 lenses, in 2 weeks, (by July 1, 2008) about 5 of your everyday superheroes.  If you have one of the winning lenses you’ll win $500.00 for your favorite charity.

This Week’s Giant Winner – awelldressedbullet

I’ve got to hand it to you,  You people sure know how to nominate and pick winners in the Choose Your Favorite Giant Lens Contest .

This week’s winning lens, I Love Avocados by Giant Lensmaster awelldressedbullet is truly an amazing example of what Squidoo recipe lenses should look like.

The lens is chock full of tasty avocado recipes (there’s even one for avocado ice cream.  Who knew?) and includes avocado nutritional information along with descriptions and photos of the most common varieties of avacodos available.  You’ll also find a list of good ideas for using avocado and an explanation of what a Molcajete is and how to use one for making authentic Mexican guacamole.

With summer starting today I’m sure you’ll want to visit, and bookmark,  I Love Avocados to have it handy for all the warm weather entertaining you’ll be doing in the coming weeks.

    A Grandmother’s Love

Lensmaster GramaBarb is a Canadian Senior with a slew of interests that include birdwatching, cooking, gardening and art! This amazing grandmother’s most popular lens just happens to be A Grandmother’s Love which includes poems, gifts (for grandma) and a list of the “wonderful role grandparents play in the lives of young children”.  And let me tell you, she takes her grand-motherly duties seriously, if only everyone was lucky enough to have a grandmother like her!

Visit GramaBarb’s lenses for some more activities to do with your grandchildren like, Gardening with Grandma, Birding the World with Grandma and Grandma’s Favorite Recipes that proclaims “Grandma’s Never Run Out of Cookies or Hugs”.

In addition to being a really awesome Grandma, Barb is also a talented artist, you can visit her CafePress Shop to see her beautiful work and she has great taste in music, Captain And Tennille was one of my favorite 70’s acts! So sit back, have some tea, and spend a few hours with a really great Grandma!
