Today’s nominated lenses came with such nice notes but I wasn’t given permission to share the names of the lensmasters who wrote them. I’ve decided to share these notes anonymously so that you (and the lensmaster who created the lens) can read them. The words written in italics below are the warm words of some of our community leaders who took the time to not only nominate a terrific lens for a purple star but also to write telling Bonnie and I why they chose it. “Eight short months ago I discovered a whole new world. A place where people once again mattered, where thoughts and opinions could be expressed, discussed and even debated without anyone being harmed. A place where people I have never personally met opened their hearts to comfort, console or just hold my (virtual) hand. We have laughed, cheered, screamed, fussed and even cried together. We have crafted, cooked, cleaned and collected for charity. I have been encouraged, praised and blessed by many of you and I hope I have contributed to your success as well.

Today, I ask myself, “what did I ever do without each of you in the land of Squidoo?” Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your lives. May you have many, many years of tremendous blessings!”

StraySpay – Nobody can choose just one!

When I asked Giant Squid Lensmaster StraySpay to tell me about her favorite lens, she had a hard time deciding.

Her final decision was to showcase two lenses instead! Here’s why:

I am so happy to be part of the Squidoo community .. I’m tempted to say Squidoo family because that’s how I feel about a number of you. When I heard that one of my lenses had been nominated for the 2009 Giant Squid Award I was amazed. After all the great lens I’ve read mine has been picked? But when I received the notification that a lens about Gillis, a dog I had loved and lost, was chosen I went through stages. First disbelief, second numbness and third hysterical joy.

I can’t tell you one favorite lens because there are two I favor equally, they are my 50th lens and my 100th lens. ~Strayspay

Giant Squid Lensmaster WeddingZazzle would like you to take a look at I Made 68 Cents on Squidoo And You Can Too! A humorous lens on how I made 68 cents on Squidoo and how you can too.

Here’s why:

I made this lens for a couple of reasons but mainly to keep track of my Squidoo earnings and to give others a realistic and honest view of the growth and potential earnings of a new Squid. I intentionally wrote in a way that would be very humorous and inspiring to the reader, and leave them wanting to return month after month to see my progress. Two of my favorite things are to inspire others and to make people laugh. According to the readers comments, I think I’ve achieved both of these with this lens, which is why it is my favorite lens that I’ve built thus far. ~WeddingZazzle

jptanabe – Mysterious Monuments and Who Built Them

Giant Squid Lensmaster jptanabe would like you to take a look at “Mysterious Monuments and Who Built Them”

Here’s Why:

I wrote this lens because I’m just fascinated by different cultures. Funnily enough I was never any good at history, couldn’t abide learning those names, dates, places and stuff about all the battles that kept happening everywhere. But one year we focused on the lives of the people, and that was just amazing!

In this lens I chose a bunch of mysterious monuments that have remained from civilizations that are no longer with us. Mostly we don’t understand why or even how the people built them. But they are all the most incredible sights. There are huge megalithic stone monuments and the funniest statues of, well, I suppose you’d call them people. I just laugh every time I see those Olmec colossal heads and the Moai lined up looking intently at who knows what!

Anyway, I had so much fun making this lens. I hope lots of other people can enjoy it too, and there’s plenty to learn as well! ~ jptanabe

“I joined the WiWon Team because of Michelle Willow. I was following her on Twitter, and she had invited me to the New Squid Group she runs. Her enthusiastic comments made me feel welcome on Squidoo, and later she invited me to Rocket Moms. So it was natural for me to want to be on her team for the Giant Challenge.

My Coach wasn’t able to be online that much, so Stajia, Octavia, and Luvmyludwig all took me under their wings, with Michelle as the Leader. I asked a lot of questions, and the help I received was phenomenal that’s why I made the lens.

The Appreciation lens was made to say thank you. Originally it was only going to be for my Team, WiWon, but then I thought wait, all the Coaches are doing the same thing, so I modified the lens to include all the coaches, on all Teams.

I wanted people to go to their lenses and help them as they had helped us. So this is my favorite lens. It has so many memories of the unselfish people that Coached and Led us in the September Giant Challenge 2009.” ~ KathyMcGraw

Oops! Giant Error at the Squid Awards Lens

I’m sure you’ve all been there, a misplaced dash, a forgotten underline and suddenly you land on the wrong webpage, or as in my case, the wrong lens.

As you know only Purple Star lenses were nominated in the 2009 Giant Squid Awards but my error in using dashes instead of lines placed the wrong Megan Fox’s Tattoos lens in the spotlight.

Both good lenses, but only one of them has the purple star. I’ve corrected the link at the Awards lens and I’m asking everyone to go back and take another look at your Pop Culture category selection to be sure you’ve voted for your favorite.

Big apologies to BigGirlBlue for my error!

_Joan_ – A Revision of Cinderella

Hi! I’m lensmaster _Joan_. The lens I would like for you to take a look at is A revision of Cinderella . It was one of the earliest of my Squidoo lenses.

I made this lens because I am a stepmother and I was tired of hearing stepmothers constantly depicted as wicked and cruel. For at least three years I had been telling myself that “someday” I was going to do a rewrite of Cinderella, one that took a positive view of blended families. But it never got past the idea stage until I got involved with Squidoo. Squidoo was the motivation I needed to finally sit down and write out the whole story. It was a lot of work but also very satisfying and a lot of fun.

One of the things I love about Squidoo is that I can have lots of separate web pages on completely different topics. My main niche is choir directing and gospel music, but I can still write some fiction on the side if the mood strikes. ~ _Joan_

Macs – Welcome to my Home

New Giant Squid Lensmaster Macs would like you to take a look at Welcome To My Home .

Here’s why:

This lens showcases a topic that is close to my heart, and that is special needs children. I contribute my own special needs children with giving me the foundation necessary to share our story with others and have many lenses devoted to topics surrounding special needs children. This one gives you a peek into our home.

Unless you are faced with a similar situation, it’s difficult to comprehend what life is like for parents raising these special children. This lens gives readers a peek into the world of special needs families. My hope is that upon reading it, people will come away with a better comprehension of what life is like. That in the future, rather than staring and judging those parents, they will show compassion and understanding.

This brutally honest lens is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Well worth a visit by you.
