Multiple Giant Squid Accounts

About Multiple Giant Squid Accounts

As some of you already know, we were not allowing new multiple Giant Squid accounts but in light of lensmasters requesting second accounts for use with special niche topics, we have reconsidered, and I’m happy to announce that starting with the next deadline, March 31st 2010, we will allow lensmasters to have more than one Giant Squid Account with the following stipulations:

No transferring lenses from one account to the other.
No cross-rating your own lenses from account to account.
The 50 new lenses in your second account will be held to our highest standards.
And please no anonymity — if multiple accounts are yours and you’d like them considered for Giant, let us know about it!

That gives you the entire quarter to make those second account lenses sparkle!
Good luck!

How do people manage multiple accounts? I have a hard enough time keeping track of one! LOL!

  2. I’m very glad to hear it’s now possible to have two giant accounts (and in theory more).

However the ‘No transferring of lenses from one account to the’ rule does complicate things.

I’ve been making my lenses on my spirituality account – to be able to make use of the templates, and then moving them over. I mean – I want the new account so my calendar lenses (40+) can sit in one account. Which works well for yahoo at least, and long term for google too, I should think.

But if I can’t transfer the 40+ lenses over it’s a whole different ball game.

Not that I’m very sure my calendar lenses are all up to snuff anyhow, but they’re certainly better than some giant lenses I’ve seen.

    Good point spirituality.

What you are doing is fine because you are creating new lenses for the new account.

What we are trying to avoid by implementing this rule is people who might try to switch their old (already Giant Squid) lenses into a new account simply to achieve giant status without doing any additional work.

Basically, if you want to be considered for another Giant Squid account, we want to see new work being done. We’ve already seen the old stuff. :)

  4. :) Glad to hear it.

But the majority of the lenses on the new account were made before I’d even thought of it. I had 40+ lenses on calendars when I thought it would be a good idea to have a separate account for them. While I’ll certainly make new lenses for the new account, the majority will still be (by march 2010) ‘old’. Though to make giant squid I will look each one over to get rid of duplicate content issues.

Of course the old account will still contain more than enough quality lenses to retain giant squid top 100 status & I won’t be transferring any lenses ONLY to make the 50 lenses cut, but still.

  5. This discussion is getting a bit old now but the problem I see (and I’m thinking in terms of my movie niche) is that if I were to create a new account for my movies I would NEED to move my movie lenses over, otherwise, what’s the point?

“No transferring lenses from one account to the other” becomes a stumbling block.

    Hi Brenda,
If you are creating new lenses for the new niche account, it’s fine to include some of your older lenses into the mix.

What we can’t allow is for a Giant with say 150 lenses to create a new name and account then simply move 50 of their, “already looked at” lenses into it just to get another account going. Make sense?
