A Look at Lurchers

Today I’d like to point you to a great lens by one of our newest Giants, Lurchers – 40MPH Couch Potato Dogs!  by CDT.

CDT took the Potential Giant Squid Challenge at Squidu and won.   Here’s why she chose this lens to share with you.
“The reason that Lurchers – 40MPH Couch Potato Dogs! means a lot is that I’m a life-long dog lover and now owner of 3 Lurchers. Lurchers are seen a lot in the UK and Ireland, but less so elsewhere in the world. They are crossbreed dogs originally bred for hunting. Hunting with dogs is now illegal in the UK and there are large numbers of unwanted Lurchers languishing in dog rescue centres all over the UK and Ireland awaiting re-homing…even worse, many of them end up euthanized if no-one wants them. All 3 of my Lurchers are rescue dogs and they are WONDERFUL. Lurchers make fantastic pets in every respect and despite the fact that they can run at speeds up to 40MPH, require very little exercise.

I wrote my Lurcher lens to try to spread the word about the wonderfulness of Lurchers, to give an account of my experiences as a Lurcher owner, to raise awareness and highlight the plight of unwanted Lurchers and to give information about Lurcher rescue organisations. My Lurchers give me so much love and joy, I’d like to try to help both Lurchers in need of a home and humans in need of a dog! ”
