New Life for Low Ranking Lenses

If you’re like me you’ve probably got a few low ranking lenses that you’re not so very proud of.   You know - those lenses you created as a newbie Squid before you really “GOT” it.  Or the lenses that seemed like a great idea when you started them but somehow lost their luster before completion.  In either case, instead of ignoring them, hoping nobody notices them lingering at the bottom of your lens list, or even worse (GASP!!!)  deleting them, why not re-envision them?

Unlike revision, where you correct and/or build upon what’s already written, when you re-envision, you take your lens in a different, more exciting, and possibly more successful direction.

Of course you’ll need to stick within the realm of your permanent url keyword.  You can’t change apples to oranges but you can change up the focal point of the lens topic in question.

To do this you’ll need to ask yourself a few questions:

  • What was I thinking when I made this lens?
  • What isn’t working?
  • What can I do to make it better?

Take your time with the answers.  Explore all of your options.

Here’s a few ideas to help get you started:

  • Add several duel modules with thought provoking questions and turn your lens into a Debate about your topic.
  • Add a bunch of poll modules and turn your lens into a Quiz about your topic.
  • Add a few different link lists to turn your lens into a Resource Guide for your topic.
  • Write an intriguing article and turn your lens into a Review of your topic.

The possiblities are endless!

When you’re done re-envisioning your lens, be sure to modify your title and add some specific keywords that match the changes you’ve made.

Finally, don’t forget to Squidcast, Twitter, and post the links to your “new” old lenses here so we can all see what you’ve done!

Great advice. I also like to add or possibly change the wording in my feed my search.

Robin — some good pointers for repurposing lenses that aren’t performing as expected.
