How to Build a Better Holiday Niche – Part One

Recently we held a Giant Chat led by KimberlyDawnWells where we took a closer look at  her  Making Great Holiday Lenses lens and explored ways we could earn more money this holiday season with Squidoo.  I’m going to share her fantastic tips in a three part series designed to help you earn more money at Squidoo by building your lenses around a niche topic.

Your first step in creating a better niche topic is to choose a very specific and unique topic that you love and are familiar with.  Although it isn’t mandatory that you love your topic, it would be wise because you will be spending quite a bit of time on this project.  After you’ve chosen your niche…

Tip #1 – Pick one awesome item and promote the heck out of it.

The idea is to choose one big ticket item that fits your niche topic and build a super lens about it.  This lens is going to be your main super seller lens so choose wisely.

Keep in mind that Christmas is not only about toys. The ideas demonstrated on Kimberly’s lens are home theater recliners, binoculars with Swarovski crystal lenses, and a child sized Dune Buggy.  You should choose an item of similar value that suits your own topic such as a diamond Journey necklace for a jewelry niche, a Sony VAIO Laptop for a writing niche, or the Weber Q  grill for a tailgating niche.

Use your imagination and choose the most wanted dream item that people interested in your specific niche topic would really love to own.

To demonstrate, I’ve chosen red kitchen appliances as my niche topic because as everyone here already knows I like to cook.  I didn’t choose cooking as my niche because that is far too wide a topic.  You want to find a very narrow topic within your chosen subject area.

For my super seller item, I went crazy and chose Red Gas Ranges because I thought that anyone who likes red kitchen appliances would really love a red oven.  On the lens, I spotlight very expensive red gas ranges produced by the Bertazzoni company.

That’s enough to get you started for today.

Choose a very specific topic that you want to build a new niche around.

Pick an awesome big ticket item that fits your new niche and build a great lens about it.

  1. Great tips. I love how you so succinctly explained the narrowing of your niche. That seems to be something people get really caught up on. Trying to sell everything at once, instead of one thing at a time.

It allows your customer to stay focused and click through, but it also helps you get ranked in the search engines because not as many people focus on the very small niches, or specific products.

Great idea! Everyone throws around the word “niche” left and right, but you’ve done an excellent job of showing everyone with an example what exactly a niche can be on Squidoo. Thanks for the ideas!

  3. Okay — I’m ready for part two…do I have to wait until tomorrow?

    I’ll be looking for it,

    Hi Robin
Totally agree better to dominate in a tiny niche than be an also ran in a wide niche
